Emergency Preparedness Training
As the United States prepares a national response to pandemic flu and other emergencies, New York's home care
industry will be expected to actively participate. Because home health aides and paraprofessionals will
provide the bulk of patient care in the home during an emergency, it is important to educate this
population on different aspects of emergency preparedness.
CHC has produced three new training programs
specifically designed for home health aides, other paraprofessionals and community volunteers responding
to pandemic flu and other terrorism, bioterrorism or natural disaster emergencies. All are available at no charge following
registration. Participation
in all three programs is strongly encouraged, as each one covers different aspects of response and
will give participants a comprehensive understanding of the roles of each group in emergency
situations. These programs have been made possible by a grant from the New York State Department
of Health and the Health Resources Services Administration.
The best way to access the programs is through the streaming video of
Home Care Information Network (HCIN). Once you have registered, the programs will be
available to you any time day or night via the Internet.
The audio portion of the programs and workbooks are also available as downloads (see below).
